Wauwatosa students to host duct tape fashion show fundraiser

A handful of Wauwatosa students are making recyclable materials look stylish and earning some extra money in the process.
The second annual Wauwatosa Duct Tape Fashion Show to benefit Destination Imagination is scheduled for vii p.thou. Oct. 28 at Longfellow Centre Schoolhouse, 7600 W. N Ave.
"Nosotros're giving kids materials, in this case, duct tape and other recyclable materials, like paper-thin," said Anne Coulling, president of Wauwatosa Destination Imagination, an organisation that provides project-based educational programs to foster creativity and innovation in students.

The fashion bear witness draws students from several Wauwatosa schools, Coulling said. The kids have been working hard to create outfits around this year'due south theme: the movies. The theme is broad; some students may design article of clothing with a Disney theme, others may be inspired by classic films like "Gone with the Wind" or "The Sorcerer of Oz," Coulling said.
Twelve-twelvemonth-old Delaney Regan plans to design an outfit that looks like "popcorn from the movies," she said.
"It's going to exist red and white with pieces of popcorn spilling downwards my legs," Regan said, adding duct tape used to make the clothing is not always the standard grayness colour; tape with brilliant colors and unique designs is used, too.
Last year, the mode show took on a weather theme, Regan said. The Longfellow student said she designed a "rain in the city" themed outfit that used duct tape with images of a city to make the top and floral impress duct tape to make a skirt. She besides made a sunny day themed outfit that included a cape with clouds on information technology.
"It gives me a gamble to testify everyone what I've done," she said of the style bear witness. "I've always loved duct tape."
Regan said she plans to model her own fashion at adjacent week'southward bear witness, although not all students do so, she said.
Delaney Regan's mother, Amber, is the fashion testify'southward director and said she was inspired by her daughter's creativity to organize the Duct Tape Fashion Show fund-raiser.
"She has ever been drawn toward art," she said.
Delaney Regan has already made two dresses before adjacent week's fashion evidence, including a greenish dress with curt sleeves, a 5-neck cut and a belt. The other is vivid reddish with orange, black and yellow flames rising up from the bottom.
